Vietnam Steel Products, a JV involving Sumitomo Metal Industries, Nomura Trading of Osaka and Mitsui will produce mufflers, handlebars and other motorcycle parts. The Hanoi-based venture plans to supply parts to the local production subsidiaries of Japanese motorcycle makers Suzuki Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. Suzuki already has a manufacturing unit operating in Vietnam, while Honda is expected to establish a local unit by this autumn. Though the company will initially produce motorcycle parts, it will expand into car parts as the Vietnamese market develops, a Sumitomo official said. (July 4th, 1997)
