Hong Kong-based Hawk Rent-a-Car is preparing to open an office in the Philippines. The car rental company has already successfully opened offices in both Malaysia and Singapore. The company's aim is to penetrate the markets of Australia, Brunei, Indonesia, Thailand, India, Macau and China. According to the company these areas represent markets wholly underserviced by the car rental industry. (October 29th 1997)
Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. led the country's sales during the ten month period from January to October 1997. However, sales decreased 19% from the same period last year, from 33,756 units sold to 27,360 units sold. Mitsubishi Motor Philippines Corp., another leading player, experienced a 13% decrease in the number of vehicles sold, from 30,954 units a year ago to 26,887 units this year. (November 17th 1997)
