PHILIPPINES


The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines has filed a formal protest to the Philippines Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) seeking cancellation of the economic zone domestic enterprise incentives granted to Ford Motor Co. This was in response to PEZA's approval of Ford’s application to set up a US$154m car assembly and parts manufacturing plant and offer of substantial tax incentives to the American auto maker. (March 10th 1998)

Yokohama Tire Philippines Inc, a subsidiary of the Japanese group, has begun export production from its radial tire plant, which started operations in January 1998. Production for 1998 is expected to reach 1.2 million tires, the majority of which will be exported to Europe, the Middle East and other parts of Asia. (March 11th 1998)
