South East Asian Automotive News

A bimonthly newsletter of developments in the auto and auto parts markets.

ISSUE 8, AUGUST 1998

Introduction

The South East Asian auto industry continues to move fitfully towards consolidation.  There remains a need for both foreign capital and technology, though Asian companies have been reluctant to sell their equity at bargain basement prices.  The Ford/Mazda JV, Auto Alliance Thailand, at last began production, albeit scaled back from initial plans.  This should provide some relief to the Tier One suppliers already established in Thailand.

BDA is an advisory firm that assists Western companies to identify and execute acquisitions and JVs in SE Asia.  If you think that BDA’s services may be useful to you, please contact us in New York on (212) 265-5300.
