PT Chandra Asri, the Indonesian petrochemical company, currently dominates the local ethylene and propylene industry.  An expected 15%-20% cut in the tariff on ethylene and propylene should reduce PT Chandra Asri's near monopoly of the local market, allowing local specialty chemicals firms to buy raw materials from external sources at lower prices.  (July 16th 1998)

PT Indorayon Porsea’s mill’s production of pulp and rayon has been suspended since July 14th as protestors have blocked entry to the company’s facility.  The company’s management and government representatives have been holding discussions with the protestors to resolve the issue.  The Asia Pacific Resources International Holdings Ltd (APRIL) Group holds a 62% stake in the mill.  APRIL is a major SE Asian producer of pulp, paper and rayon fiber targeted at the Asia Pacific market.  (July 28th 1998)
