SINGAPORE

Celanase, a member of the German Hoechst Group, has announced plans to build an acetate esters facility in Singapore.  The plant will have a capacity of 100,000 tpa and should come on line in January 2000.  Acetate esters are used as solvents for resins, and in the production of adhesives and pharmaceuticals.  (July 16th 1998) 

Sumitomo Chemical Co will start up production facilities for acrylic esters (60,000 tpa), crude and purified acrylic acid (85,000 tpa), water absorbent resin (27,000 tpa), MMA monomer (50,000 tpa) and MMA polymer (25,000 tpa) by October 1998 on Sakra Island, Singapore.  (August 4th 1998) 

Witco, the US specialty chemicals company, has acquired an alkoxylation plant in Singapore from the Chinook Group of Toronto.  The plant produces surfactants for the SE Asian agrochemicals, oilfield and emulsion polymer industries.  Witco has a plant expansion due for completion in Q4 1998 and a cationic and amphoteric surfactants plant due for completion in Malaysia in Q3 1999.  (July 10th 1998)
