Kalbe Farma, Indonesia's leading domestic pharmaceutical manufacturer, has acquired Woods, the Australian cough syrup brand owned by WE Woods Pte Ltd, Australia, worth US$9.8m. The deal covers the stocks and all rights including intellectual property, trade brand, formulation, technology, design and product concept. Kalbe also obtained production and distribution contracts which have been carried out by Woods. (July 10th 1997)

Mustika Ratu, the leading Indonesian manufacturer of traditional Indonesian health supplements and natural cosmetics, is seeking partners to manage a trading and distribution JV in Thailand. Mustika Ratu expects revenues of US$76m in 1997, up from US$59m in 1996. (July 30th 1997)

Optima Dipa Medika is building a second hospital in Jakarta jointly with Kumpulan Perubatan (Johor) Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian private hospital operator. The new hospital, located at Bumi Serpong Damai, is the second to be built by KP in Jakarta and the third in Indonesia. KP has also been operating a pharmaceutical chain, Pharmacare Medicine Shoppe, in Jakarta since 1996. (July 9th 1997)
