PHILIPPINES
The Philippines Government has announced a policy of upgrading its health services, including the privatization of four Government tertiary hospitals, the Philippine Heart Center, Lung Center, National Kidney Institute and the Philippine Children's Medical Center. BDA expects an increase in the number of private hospitals and electromedical equipment manufacturing. We expect the electromagnetic equipment sector to grow 14% annually for the next three years. In 1996, imports accounted for 98% (US$32m) of total consumption of electromedical equipment, with the US holding 34% of the market. US products have a good reputation with Filipino doctors.
