Rohto Pharmaceutical Co. of Japan has established an eye medication manufacturing company in Vietnam, Rohto-Mentholatum Vietnam. In October, Rohto will begin construction of manufacturing facilities in a joint Vietnam/Singapore industrial zone. The plant should be operational by 1999. (August 28th 1997)
The Vietnamese Government has announced its intention to approve the establishment of private, semi-public, JV and 100% foreign-invested hospitals, in an attempt to encourage all economic sectors to provide healthcare services. In the future, the Government also plans to allow the development of private and joint stock pharmaceutical enterprises. However, the Government will simultaneously strengthen state management of private pharmacies and doctors' consultation offices. (August 25th 1997)
The Vietnam Ministry of Health announced a project to produce medicines for use in the medical insurance sector. The aim of the project is to lower the cost of quality medicines by reducing production costs. The Ministry did not indicate which pharmaceutical enterprise will take charge of the project.
