Business Development Asia LLCSouth East Asian Health NewsISSUE 8, AUGUST 1998SINGAPORE Asiamatrix Ltd, the local plastic injection mould-maker, proposes to pay US$22.8m to acquire equity stakes in the medical practices of four doctors, Low Cze Hong (ophthalmology), Leslie Lam Kwok Tai (cardiology), Ong Kim Kiat (cardio-thoracic surgery) and Susan Lim Mey Lee (general surgery). These acquisitions will further Asiamatrix’s diversification into the healthcare sector. (June 26th 1998) Singapore Technologies Industrial Corp (STIC) may divest its healthcare interests in China. STIC is merging with Sembawang Corp to form Semb Corp Industries (SCI). STIC ventured into the healthcare industry in July 1997 and has interests in two healthcare businesses. The first is a 16.2% stake in local primary healthcare provider and education group Beng Ooi Medical Services. The second is a 50% stake in a Canadian-based healthcare company which has both hospital and clinic projects in China. (July 23rd 1998)
