In ten years, the clinic will be transferred to a local partner with a 30% stake. The hospital expects 100 to 150 local and expatriate patients to visit the clinic daily. (July 31st 1998)The Government announced that local pharmaceutical and medical equipment manufacturers saw a 19% increase in total profits for H1 1998 to VND24bn (US$1.8m) compared to the same period last year. Pharmaceutical output reached VND133bn (US$10m) up 23% from VND108bn (US$8m) in 1997. (July 24th 1998) Rhone-Poulenc Rorer (Vietnam), a pharmaceutical JV between YTECO, representing the People's Committee of HCMC, and Rhone-Poulenc SA, opened a pharmaceutical production unit in HCMC. The plant will manufacture antibiotics and anti-inflammatories for the Vietnamese market. US$10m was invested for the site. The JV had sales of US$40m in 1997. (July 14th 1998) Vietnam International Hospital, a JV between Bach Mai Hospital and Australia’s Indochina Medical Co, has lowered its fees 30% for Vietnamese patients. The result was a 50% increase in local clientele. In H1 1998, the hospital saw 5,500 patients, though only 3% were Vietnamese. (July 28th 1998)
