VIETNAM

The Columbia-Gia Dinh Clinic, a JV between Gia Dinh People's Hospital and Columbia Pacific Health Care, opened on September 15th. The clinic is the first of its kind in Saigon, and it will offer surgical, obstetric, gynecological and pediatric services, and will perform minor operations. (September 16th 1998)

Phu Tho Pharmaceuitcals and the Chinese state agency, Chinese Yunnan International Cooperation Co have established a US$3m JV in the Thuy Van Industrial Park in Northern Vietnam for the production of bulk pharmaceuticals. (September 30th 1998)

The Ministry of Health has announced it intention to invest US$1m to establish a laboratory in HCMC to determine the concentrations of locally produced pharmaceutical products. Local drug manufacturers will better be able to export their products once product purity can be independently verified locally. The laboratory will be supported and run by the Central Pharmaceutical Material Company No. 2 and the HCMC Medicine and Pharmaceutical College. (September 17th 1998)
